Neuralink’s brain microchip can cure blidness, Elon Musk claims
Understanding Brain Microchips
In recent years, there has been a growing interest in the field of brain microchips and their potential to restore human disabilities. One company at the forefront of this technology is Neuralink, founded by Elon Musk. In a nutshell, brain microchip is a small device that can be implanted in the brain to provide for certain functionality. These chips are designed to interface with the brain’s neural networks, allowing to restore lost sensory functions.
One fascinating application is the restoration of sight in individuals with blindsight. Blindsight is a condition where a person is visually impaired but can still respond to visual stimuli. Brain microchips could potentially bypass the damaged visual pathways and stimulate the brain directly, allowing individuals to regain some level of visual perception.
Neuralink: “Blindsight” implant is already working
Elon Musk said his company Neuralink had enabled blind monkeys to see with its brain chip technology. “The Blindsight implant is already working in monkeys,” he explained. Musk also said that this Neuralink product would be called Blindsight, adding that the resolution would be low to begin with, like “early Nintendo graphics”, but it could exceed normal human vision in the future. After regulatory approval, the device is to be tested on the first human and completion of vision chip is to be ready in a few years.
First brain-chip patient plays online chess
Although Blindsight device is currently working in monkeys, another Neurolink’s chip has already been implanted into human’s brain.
Noland Arbaugh, the 29-year-old patient who was paralyzed below the shoulders after a diving accident, was playing chess on his laptop and moving the cursor using the Neuralink’s device. He had received an implant from the company in January and could control a computer mouse using his thoughts, Musk said last month. This another Neuralink’s device called “Telepathy” and is being used to allow people to control a computer with only their brain.
Pushing the Boundaries
Neuralink, spearheaded by Elon Musk, is dedicated to developing brain microchips that are safe, effective, and accessible. The company aims to create a seamless interface between humans and technology, opening up a world of possibilities to restore lost or damaged abilities.
While the technology is still in its early stages, the potential impact of brain microchips is immense. In the future, it can to reshape the way we interact with the world and with each other.
